Open a project in the dashboard. Its controls are
on four pages: Configure, Agents, GitHub repo and Slack channel.
Rename and delete are in the project menu.
| Control | What it does | Guide |
|---|
| Theme | How the widget looks: Classic (default), Corporate, Paper, Garden, Ocean, Night shift, Space or Terminal. Themes besides Classic need the Team plan or above. Saved when you pick a card. Signed-in workspace members see it at once; everyone else on their next page load. | Widget |
| Sites that can use the widget | The origins allowed to use the project key, one per line. * matches inside one DNS label. An empty list allows no site. Save with Save websites. | Access |
| Site mode | Preview or Production, per exact origin. A production site hides the widget from visitors and shows it to reviewers: anyone who opens the reviewer link, presses Alt+Shift+G, or has signed in there to comment. Once saved, the row has the reviewer link. | Widget |
| Who may comment | Anyone (named guests), Google sign-in, Google, named domains only, or Your own identity provider. Named domains also apply to opted-in Slack replies with a Slack-confirmed email; that author remains a separate Slack identity. | Access |
| Issuer, Max token age | For your own identity provider only. Issuer must match the token’s iss. Max token age is 1 to 60 minutes, default 5. | Identity tokens |
| Who may tag an agent | Signed-in members (default), Your own domains only, or Members who may comment. It can narrow who may comment. It never widens it. | Access |
| Commenter session length | 1 to 720 hours. Unset, a project uses 168 hours (7 days). Applies from each person’s next sign-in. Own-identity-provider sessions use 12 hours if that is shorter. | Access |
Agents
| Control | What it does | Guide |
|---|
| Work destination | Open a new pull request (default): the agent works on its own branch. Update the branch under review: the agent commits to the preview’s branch when it can find one. | Agents |
| Let agents push branches and open pull requests | Lets built-in agents write to the project’s repository. This is separate from connecting GitHub for feedback. | Agents |
| Enabled, Handle, Display name | Offers the agent in the picker, sets what people type after @, and the name on its replies. | Built-in agents |
| Provider key | The provider credential. For Copilot, a GitHub personal access token. Stored encrypted, never shown again. | Agents |
| Runs per day | Most agent starts per project per day, counted from midnight UTC. | Agents |
| Budget per run | Claude only. Most provider spend for one task, in cents. | Agents |
GitHub repo
Repository verification describes the destination. GitHub publishing is paused
in this release means this release’s publisher is stopped; notes and the choices
below stay saved. Older running versions may still send comments or checks until
they stop.
When the GitHub App is available on the deployment, an unconnected project
with no saved GitHub settings can use Before connecting to save pull-request
summaries, checks, merge blocking, and agent pushes as off. This saves settings
in Gutternote without connecting the App or selecting a repository.
The full pull request review, its bound preview environment, and existing
GitHub comment or check may show an informational open, closed, or merged
status beside independent note counts. That status is not a repository setting,
does not change feedback choices, and does not resolve notes or start an agent.
| Control | What it does | Guide |
|---|
| GitHub App connection | Gives Gutternote the repositories you select in GitHub. Use an existing installation connects one you already installed. | GitHub |
| Repository | The current repository for issues and agents. New preview summaries and checks require an App-verified repository and PR binding; older preview bindings do not move when this changes. | GitHub |
| Base branch | The target for new agent pull requests. Blank uses the repository default. | GitHub |
| Post a summary comment on the pull request | Posts and updates one Gutternote comment on each pull request. | Pull request feedback |
| Report the unresolved count as a check | Adds a check run on every pull request’s head commit, passing when there are no notes. On by default when first configured, unless disabled before connecting. Needs the summary comment on. | GitHub |
| Fail the check while comments are unresolved | Makes the check fail while comments are open. GitHub blocks a merge only if a rule requires the check. | GitHub |
| Personal access token | What agents push with when the GitHub App is not installed. Summaries and the check don’t use it; GitHub lets only an app create checks. Remove token deletes the stored copy. Revoke it on GitHub too. | GitHub |
Slack channel
| Control | What it does | Guide |
|---|
| Connect Slack | A workspace owner connects Slack once for all projects. Slack asks for every feature’s permissions in the same approval. | Slack |
| Post this project’s notes to Slack | Turns posting on for this project. | Slack |
| Channel | Where new notes go. | Slack |
| Pull request previews (optional) | A second channel for notes on pull request previews. Each note gets its own message, as in Channel. | Slack |
| What posts | Turn New notes, Replies, Agent updates and Resolved and reopened on or off. | Slack |
| Upload a note’s images to Slack | Workspace owners only. On by default where comments are stored in Gutternote and image storage is available. While posting is on, shows a note’s screenshot and the images on its opening comment on the note’s own Slack message, and shares images on replies as files in its thread. Newly added or changed images only; crop preferred, no historical backfill. | Screenshots and images |
| Bring replies from Slack into Gutternote | Workspace owners only. Starts ticked on a new connection, and imports start once an owner saves; a saved “off” stays off. Needs a public channel with @Gutternote in it. Imports new Slack replies from public channels into the matching note. A reply goes to the note whose thread it is in. | Slack |
| Import supported images from Slack | Workspace owners only. On by default and separate from outbound sharing. Copies new supported images and image-only replies on mapped public threads; requires reply importing, private image storage and the workspace’s file-read permission. No historical backfill. Exact source removal continues after opt-out, a channel change or workspace reconnection. | Image imports |
| Reconnect Slack | Workspace owners only. Restores an unavailable workspace connection, subject to its permissions and saved project switches. Also grants the updated permissions when the card says Reconnect Slack to grant its updated permissions. | Reconnect |
| Dismiss notice | Workspace owners only. Hides the shared possible-missing-replies notice. It does not recover messages; a report for a later minute brings it back. | Missing replies |
| Control | What it does | Guide |
|---|
| Rename | Changes the project name: 1 to 100 characters, one line. | — |
| Delete | Workspace owners only. Type the project name to confirm. This permanently removes its notes, settings, agent setup and GitHub records. | — |
Personal settings
Open Personal settings → Notifications for preferences that apply only to
you. Slack choices are per workspace and do not change email preferences.
| Control | What it does | Guide |
|---|
| Email me about replies | Controls your existing reply emails independently of Slack DMs. | — |
| Link my Slack account | Matches your verified sign-in email to an eligible Slack member in that workspace. Does not enable DMs. | Personal DMs |
| DM me when someone else replies to my notes | Off by default. DMs you about other people’s replies to your own notes and final built-in agent results, while you retain access and the project has Slack enabled. Available only where personal DMs and the required workspace permissions are enabled. | Personal DMs |
